Old Activities: Close, Cancel or Delete?

Hi

We have deployed MS Dynamics CRM 2015 online across the business, and no surprise, we have created a range of activities automatically via workflows.

This all works great, but in the first 6 weeks of operation, the business had some challenges getting their head around having to close an activity once the action had been completed. They are a lot better now, but we do have a 1000+ activities across the system that are still open and overdue from several months back which really just need to go.

What are peoples thoughts on the recommended method to make those activities go away? Should we:

  • Close them?
  • Cancel them?
  • Delete them?

Any particular advantages or disadvantages to the above?

In fact, thinking about this, as I write it on the screen (the downside of working at home on your own on a Friday!) I suspect the best option would be to cancel them. This means I should be able to report on them later in the year for comparison over time.
