Sending Email from CRM but replies don't automatically track

I have the outlook plugin installed, when I click track on an email it tracks all the correspondence.

However when I send an email directly from CRM (using the email activity) the replies to that email do not automatically track in CRM.

Is this by design, and if so is there a way to alter a setting to that email replies from emails sent from CRM auto track?
