Get Opportunity Sales Process Stage in C#

I need to get the sales process stage of opportunity.I am trying to get activategstageid.In C# I am doing an inner join on opportunity and opportunity sales process but it is returning back three Opportunity Sales Process objects. I was nuder the impression that opportunity has one t one relationship with the OpportunitySlaesProcess.
