Merge accounts with many related records

Hi All,

I am merging one account record which have 700 related contacts with another account record but it is failing with time out exception.

Can I handle this by writing Async plugin/workflow using MergeRequest class?

I tried an async plugin but it failed with time out exception, but when I opened the record I can see it merged correctly.
