CRM - Sharepoint custom integration best strategies ?

Hi all,

I'd like to ask anyone who has done custom CRM-Sharepoint integration about the implementation strategy. Here is what we want to achieve:

1. Create document location record

2. Create document library or folder to store documents

3. Apply custom content type

4. Break the share point security inheritance to apply custom security (based on the security change in CRM )

Constraints:

a. There will be less than 5000 documents per a single document location. Once it's near the limit, another location is created and attached to the record. (Nice to have: not allow user to add more document into the previous one and let them know about it)

b. There will be less than 100 GB per site collection. Once it's near the limit, another site collection is created and set to default.

c. There will be less than 200 GB per content database. Once it's near the limit, another content database is created.

Currently there are 2 strategies is being discussed:

I. All implementations are in CRM side. Use builtin SharePoint web services to achieve tasks in SharePoint. Use third-party tool for security sync

II. Hire a SharePoint expert to build SharePoint custom web services. CRM don't need to have SharePoint knowledge, just call the custom web services to achieve tasks in SharePoint.

Which one will require more development time and cost ? Let say expertise is not an issue.

Which one is simpler ?

Which one is easier to maintain ?

Which one would scale better when we have thousand of users and number of documents reach millions ?

Thanks,

Crm Practitioner
