Sending a created email in a workflow

Hi all,

Is there a way to send a saved email in a CRM workflow out of the box? I've been messing around for a while and can't make any progress. I can't use the Send Email workflow activity.

This is what I'm going for in the workflow:

1. Use a Create step to create the email
2. Pass the email as an input parameter to a custom assembly for manipulation
3. Send the manipulated email

I've tried a status update to Pending Send but it's just sitting there and isn't getting picked up.
