CRM email router mailbox issues 2016 CRM DYnamics

Hi Friends we recently upgrade to 2011 to 2016.

We recently has issues with exchange mail box..The CRM Mail Router mailbox is now up to 77GB in size, with well over 600,000 email items in it that have not been processed (we assume).  it appears that CRM is not able to access the Exchange mailbox. the way CRM is supposed to work with this mailbox, How to clean the 77GB memory.

This brings us to the following questions:

 

  1. Did this issue begin when CRM was upgraded to 2016?  The timing and size of the mailbox based on growth seems to point to this. 
  2. Is there any way to determine if these messages in the Mail router mailbox are actually missing from CRM, just to confirm the actual status of the emails in the mailbox?
  3. What is the implication if we fix the connectivity between CRM and the mail router mailbox?  Will CRM start to ingest 77GB of old emails into the application?  Will that be a problem?
  4. Should we purge the contents of this mailbox before fixing the connectivity to prevent the existing 77GB of data from being imported into CRM?
  5. Are there any legal implications or business issues created by this mailbox connectivity problem? 

I have above questions can any one help on this issus.
