Wrong Createdon dates issue

I have imported some products (which were old and hence used the overiddencreatedon field to set the createdon field)

From what I know...what happens after that is - 

Overiddencreatedon --> CreatedOn

& then 

Time of Import--> OveriddenCreatedOn

I have verified this multiple times by looking into the database.

Now the Problem is -

When anyone clones a certain product (using the OOB Clone functionality) --results in the wrong createdon date. It ends up using the (Time of last Import or OveriddenCreatedOn value of the original product which is being cloned)

Does anyone have any idea/workaround for this??
