Restrict the user when they create an opportunity

Hi all,

i want help from experts basically i want to restrict the user when they are creating an opportunity it should check the company and event if opportunity exist of this criteria then it wont allow to create another opportunity.

I am using real time workflow but it check only forms field.

can you please guide me.
