transactioncurrencyid field null issue

Hi,

I have created a rollup field on an existing custom entity(new_case). Rollup field calculates properly for the new cases but for all the existing cases, it is blank. It won't calculate and nothing happens if refresh is clicked. After some research I found that the transactioncurrencyid gets created after the first currency field created for that entity. And rollup field needs the transactioncurrencyid to work properly. Am I correct? How do I make the rollup field work for the existing cases as well? The transactioncurrencyid for all the existing cases is null in the database.

This feature is an enhancement to our system which is already in production. So, there are lot of cases already in production and rollup field should calculate for all those live case records. Any workarounds or suggestions will be great.
