Filtering products by price list or another field in opportunity, quote, or order

Hello,

I am using CRM Online 2016.  I am curious on what the best way to filter product input based on vendor in the aforementioned scenarios would be?  My end result would be as such:

1. Create new quote
2. Enter price list / vendor / product family into a required field.
3. Save the quote and then add a new product, however, only allow/show the product for the particular vendor selected as part of a separate field or price list?

At first I thought I would add a vendor lookup field, force the user to select a vendor before they could continue, and then have the product list only allow the addition of products based upon the vendor selected.  However, I do not know how that would work - so I come to the forums for help.  I hope my description adequately describes the what I'm looking for, but I'm happy to clarify additional details if necessary.
